The Smart ENVE System 2.2 is the ultimate climbing wheel with aerodynamic properties that refine stability in the most extreme wind and weather conditions. As such, lightweight trumps drag reduction with the SES 2.2.

The SES 2.2 underwent in-frame development in the Mercedes GP-Petronas wind tunnel in order to define the final shape of the rim. Unlike the other SES wheel sets, the SES 2.2 features the same rim geometry front to rear whereas its SES counterparts have dissimilar rim width and depth front to rear in order to maximize aerodynamic efficiency.

In terms of tire fitment, the SES 2.2 is developed to be used with 25mm tires and the clincher version of the rims is tubeless compatible. Because the SES 2.2 is designed to be ridden through the mountains, it was important up the performance levels of our molded brake track texture technology. As such, the SES 2.2 is the first SES rim to feature our new molded in brake track texture. This new brake track texture improves braking performance by as much as 30% over the previous brake track and performs as well in wet conditions as it does in dry.

Each SES 2.2 wheel set includes 2 pair of our new black brake pads which have been specially formulated to improve braking power, modulation, and wet weather performance. The combination of the new brake track and black brake pad compound deliver the ultimate in rim brake technology. The SES 2.2 debuted in the pro peloton at the 2015 Tour de France under Team Dimension Data (formerly Team MTN-Qhubeka)

Tubular tires feature a rubber tread sewn onto a tube and they’re glued or taped onto specifically designed rims. Tubulars rims are significantly lighter because the reinforced walls that support a clincher tire are not necessary and the overall wheel and tire system is lighter. Tubular tires are more expensive than their clincher equivalents, harder to change because they’re glued in place and they usually go in the trash after one puncture, negatives that rule them out for most riders most of the time. However, the lower system weight makes a tubular wheelset more responsive when accelerating, climbing, cornering and braking. For this reason, tubulars remain the default choice of professional racers and also many amateurs, and that’s why ENVE is committed to offering the tubular format.

It used to be simple – train on clinchers, race on tubulars – but advances in clincher rim and tire design, plus the arrival of tubeless technology to the road, means that’s no longer the case. The best clincher and tubeless tires now out-perform top tubulars for rolling resistance. What’s more clincher rims and tires also integrate slightly more aerodynamically. For triathlon, grand fondos and nearly all road riding, tubeless/clinchers are recommended. In shorter events, or if you’re lucky enough to have a support car, committed racers will tell you that little else feels as good as a set of superlight tubs leaping out of a corner.

Need to know:
• Lighter and more responsive rims and total wheel and tire package
• Tires must be glued in place
• Recommended for criterium and road racers
• Everyone else is recommended to go tubeless
• Clincher and tubeless tires are more practical

Since its introduction in 2009, the Smart ENVE System 3.4 has established itself as ENVEs most versatile and consequently most popular carbon fiber aero road wheelset amongst road cyclists of all abilities. As such, its no surprise that ENVEs first stage victory at the Tour de France was delivered by Steve Cummings aboard the SES 3.4. The SES 3.4 is wider than its predecessor (29mm wide external, 21mm internal) to improve rolling resistance and improve aerodynamics for use with 25mm tires. In addition to added width, the versatile and reliable nature of the SES 3.4 has been augmented by incorporating road tubeless tire compatibility. Road tubeless compatibility means improved rolling resistance, comfort, traction, and a reduced propensity for flat tires. Like all SES wheel models, the SES 3.4 features dissimilar rim shapes and geometries between front and back wheels to maximize aerodynamic efficiency and rideability in variable wind and weather conditions. The front rim is 38mm deep and shallower than the rear rim to aid in cross wind stability while rear rim is 42mm deep and therefore improves overall airflow attachment. For riding in mountainous terrain where heavy braking is required, the SES 3.4 features a high temperature resistant resin system and ENVEs molded in brake track technology to ensure rim integrity and precision braking when and where it is needed most, in mountainous terrain.

SES 4.5 RIM SHAPE EXPLAINED

Perhaps the ultimate all-round, high performance wheelset, the 4.5 debuted the second generation SES profile. It delivers outright class-leading speed while retaining a very low weight and incredible stability. No wonder it’s the go-to wheel for Team Dimension Data.

The all-new SES rim profile has a significantly revised curvature and increased widths that are optimized for 25mm tires in modern frames with greater clearances. This allows air to flow smoothly over the rim – it remains ‘attached’ – even at high crosswind angles and to reattach quicker after a strong side gust. These important advances make the 4.5 both extremely fast and stable for its depth.

In challenging conditions, wind-steer is all but eliminated and side force builds and releases smoothly and predictably, so you can ride and race with complete confidence. How fast is the 4.5? Compared to the first line of SES wheels, the 4.5 essentially matches the aerodynamics of the older 6.7, which was itself ballistic yet much deeper at 60mm front and 70mm rear, and of course heavier with it. Nothing of a similar depth or weight gets close to the speed of the 4.5. NEED TO KNOW: • Class leading aerodynamics and weight • Incredible stability in gusty conditions • Second generation SES rim profile • All-new rim profiles of 48 and 56mm • Optimized width for 25mm tires

The fastest carbon fiber Smart ENVE System aero wheel yet.

When the race is against the wind and the clock the SES 7.8 is optimized for the task. By reducing the tradeoffs between aerodynamics, stability, weight, and stiffness, the SES 7.8 carbon fiber aero wheel is the perfect tool for road racing and triathlon alike. The SES 7.8 features asymmetric rim geometries front to back. The front rim is 71mm deep and 29mm wide while the rear rims is 80mm deep and 27.5 mm wide. The dissimilar rim geometries improve the efficiency of the airflow in the system of bike frame and wheels.

Because running 25mm tires is now standard, the SES 7.8 was designed with larger tires in mind. Additionally, frame manufacturers are now producing frames that have more clearance between wheel and frame which has opened up the design scope for a wheelset. The SES 7.8 is optimized for these frames.

In addition to changes in shape and structure, the SES 7.8 features the latest molded in carbon fiber brake track texture and is compatible with road tubeless tires. The SES 7.8 when built with the ENVE Carbon Road Hub comes in at a weight of 1562 grams making it a viable choice for courses that feature flat to hilly terrain.

For experienced triathletes and road racers seeking maximum aero performance and stability.

Enve made the SES 7.8 to achieve two things: more speed and more stability. The SES 7.8 embodies the latest SES technologies and includes Enve's newest molded in brake track and tubeless clincher tire compatibility. The SES 7.8 is wider and specifically optimized to perform best when used with a modern aero frame and large 25mm tires.

WHO IT’S FOR
Road, gravel, and cyclocross riders

MEDIA REVIEWS
“If you are after serious performance, or are the type that wonders if there is a better option out there compared to what you have, stop wondering and pick up an ENVE stem.”

– Art’s Cyclery Reviews

WHY WE MADE IT
The ENVE Road Stem rounds out the ultimate ENVE cockpit by linking handlebar to fork in order to deliver a ride experience defined by responsive, confidence inspiring control. This ride quality is achieved by tuning the uni-directional carbon fiber laminate and finishing off the stem with cold forged alloy face plate and titanium hardware.

FULL DETAILS
The ENVE Road Stem is a staple component in our line and often under-appreciated for the benefits it provides out on the road. The stem plays a key role by connecting your bike to your handlebars and it must manage all the forces that you the rider put into your bike. On the road the 100% uni-directional carbon body provides a lightweight structure that is torsionally and laterally stiff to ensure that inputs into steering and accelerating are positive and confidence inspiring. Over rough roads the carbon fiber laminate helps absorb vibration and reduce hand and upper body fatigue. To further reduce weight all stem hardware is constructed from lightweight titanium. The faceplate is cold-forged aluminum as it allows for a highly reliable and strong grip on the handlebar which means no slipping and responsive steering input.

SES AERO ROAD HANDLEBAR
SES AERO ROAD HANDLEBAR

Enve

Reg: $525

WHAT IT IS
An aerodynamically optimized road drop handlebar featuring the latest in electric drivetrain compatibility that will help you go faster through careful handlebar shaping and reducing the rider’s frontal area.

WHO IT’S FOR
Road cyclists and short course triathletes looking for maximum aero benefits.

WHY WE MADE IT
Your body accounts for the majority of the aerodynamic drag while riding. In order to achieve the most gains in terms of aero efficiency, one must first look at their position. The SES Aero Road Bar is proven in the wind-tunnel as not only a very fast bar in itself but also one that puts the rider into a more aerodynamic position. The SES Aero Road Bar also features a unique compact geometry, thoughtful ergonomics, and ENVE’s Integrated Bar End Plugs.

FULL DETAILS
The Smart ENVE System (SES) Aero Road Bar is made from 100% uni-directional carbon fiber and is the stiffest, most race oriented handlebar in the ENVE handlebar product line. The SES road bar features internal routing for mechanical and electronic systems to further save valuable watts. To further the integration with electronic groups, the bar now accommodates the housing of a junction box in the bar end. The shape of the bar is wind-tunnel and CFD tested for aero efficiency. The bulk of aero gains are made by putting the rider’s body in a fast position which can be maintained for long periods of time without sacrificing power output. Improved rider positioning is achieved by keeping the top of the bar narrow to naturally ease riders into a more aero position. The drops of the handlebar are flared for wrist clearance and confident handling in technical sprints, criteriums and descents.
